Manoj Wins At The World Boxing Championships : Photos From Baku 30 Sep 2011

Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Manoj Kumar lived up to the expectations of the Indian Camp by defeating Valentino Knowles of Bahamas on pts 17:11 this afternoon. Valentino who is the reigning Central American Games Champion and who has been continuously training in Cuba for the past many months gave a tough time to Manoj. Both boxers traded punch for punch in the opening round and the score read 5:4 in favor of Manoj at the end of first round. The Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mr Debnath Shaw alongwith Mr TR Meena, First Secretary and Mr JB Singh, Attache were present to cheer the Indian boxer. In the second round with advice from the corner coaches, Manoj changed his strategy and started using his superior reach with crisp combination punches to the head and body and that fetched him valuable points. Round 2 ended with a 3 pt lead for Manoj and the score was 11:8 . In the third round Manoj let go of his armoury and went for an all out attack which proved successful and he romped home the winner with a final score of 17:11.

Manoj will now meet Raymond Moylette of Ireland on 02 October afternoon.

Tomorrow ie. 01 October, Jai Bhagwan (60 kgs) will play against Petrauskas Evaldas of Lithuania in the afternoon while Vijender (75 kgs) will play against Emilio Correa of Cuba in the evening.
