Indian Youth Men's Boxing Team Arrive Home After Bagging Four Bronze Medals at The ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championship in Philippines

The Indian youth men’s boxing squad will return home on 17th Mar 2013 after putting up a decent show at the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championship in Subic Bay, Philippines. The four pugilists that made it to the penultimate round of the, had to settle with bronze medal performance. 2012 Youth World Championships silver medal medallist Narender Berwal (+91kg) and bronze medal winner Lalitha Prasad (49kg) along with 2012 Aglorav Cup bronze medal winner Abhishek Beniwal (81kg) and heavy weight boxer Amritpreet Singh (91kg) had to be content with a semi-final finish after losing out to their respective opponents in the round of four.

Two time Youth National Champion, Narender Berwal (+91), playing his second international tournament – first being the Youth Worlds, where he bagged the silver medal – did well to finish on the podium at the Asian championships. He was outpointed by Ulugbek Mubinov in the semi-finals. Abhishek Beniwal (81kg) and Amritpreet Singh (91kg) too displayed great skills but in the end had to make do with bronze medals. Beniwal lost to Adiet Orynbassarov from Kazakhstan while Singh also lost to another Kazak boxer Aibek Ermetov. Lalitha Prasad (49kg) went down against Kosei Tanaka of Japan.
