Madan Loses in Round 1 in Almaty at The AIBA World Boxing Championship in Kazakhstan

Former National Champion Madan Lal’s (52kg) campaign at the AIBA World Boxing Championship came to an end in his very first bout. The 21 year old playing his first World Boxing Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan  put up stunning show against some quality boxing but in the end came up short against Alexandros Riscan of Moldova.

Both the boxers were equally matched and started strongly in the opening round of the fly weight division. Lal a Gold Medal winner at the Limassol Boxing Cup in Cyprus came close to taking the advantage on many occasions. But the clever strategy of Alexandros, with a precise balance of attack and defence, helped him win the bout on a unanimous decision in the end. The scores were 28:29, 28:29 and 28:29 in favour of the Maldivian boxer. Madan who has shown promise in the domestic circuit has not been able to convert results in his favour at the international arena, since the gold medal at Cyprus. At the 2013 Asian Boxing Championships as well he lost in the pre-quarter finals.

The Indian camp will be looking for better result on day two of the Championship when Vikash Malik (60kg) takes to the canvas at Almaty against Meder Mamakeev of Kyrgyzstan. Malik will also be looking to better his record after losing out in the pre quarter-finals of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championship.
