IBF Press Release
Participation of The Indian Boxing Womens Team Have Been Cancelled..!!

Dear All,

Indian Boxing Federation would like to inform you that, due unavoidable circumstances participation of the Indian Boxing Women?s Team have been cancelled for the following tours:

? Nikolaev International Boxing Tournament scheduled to be held at Nikolaev, Ukraine from September 05-11, 2011.

? II International Boxing Women Tournament at Astana, Kazakhstan from September 13-17, 2011.

Nikolaev International Boxing Tournament: The participation of the 10 member Indian Women?s boxing squad in the above mentioned tournament has been put off by the Indian Boxing Federation. IABF had completed all the necessary formalities for the team to partake in the second edition of the tournament, well within the stipulated time frame. The Embassy of Ukraine in New Delhi though did not grant visa on the basis of the Invitation received by the IABF from the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. As per the Embassy a clearance letter was required from the Government of Ukraine or the Nikolaev City Council with the team details to be sent by the organisers i.e. the Ukraine Boxing Federation for the visa to be granted. Unfortunately the IABF did not receive any such letter from the host federation and therefore the Indian engagement had to be called off.

II International Boxing Women?s Tournament at Astana, Kazakhstan: Participation of the seven member Indian Boxing Women?s team also received a blow due to Visa problems. Once again the IABF completed all the necessary formalities in time but was intimated by the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation that they will not be able to provide the Visa Support Letter for the said event. The organisers requested the team to obtain a Visa on arrival at Kazakhstan. It would have been impossible for the team to clear immigration on the basis of a ?Visa on Arrival?; therefore IABF decided to call off its travel plan.

?We did everything on our part to be certain of the team?s participation in both the events. In fact in case of Nikolaev International Boxing Tournament, I personally went to the Embassy of Ukraine to facilitate the procedure, but they had a certain protocol to be followed and I am afraid that the Ukraine Boxing Federation hasn?t been able to provide us with the required document?, expressed Secretary General of Indian Boxing Federation, Brig PK Muralidharan Raja.

Participation of the Indian Men?s boxing team that is supposed compete in the ?Training cum Competition? in France from the 10th of September is also uncertain, owing to difficulties in obtaining the visa from the Embassy of France. The same team has been selected to represent India at the 2011 AIBA World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan which is scheduled to be held from September 22 ? October 10. Since participation in this event is imperative IABF had applied for an Azerbaijan Visa before France. With the Indian contingent being granted visa for Azerbaijan on Saturday, September 3rd, 2011, the federation would only be able to apply for the Schengen visa on the following Monday. The French consulate usually takes about a month in processing the visa paperwork. Though, extensive efforts are still being made by the IABF to ensure India?s participation in the event.
