Jangra, who has been in exceptional form, continued his good run at the canvases in Almaty as well. The railways boxer has had two medals out of two tournaments this year – He won a Gold Medal at the Lymassol Cup in Cyprus and followed it up with a Silver Medal performance at the 2013 Asian Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordon. The World Championships is his third tournament this year and by the looks of it, Jangra the Reigning National Champion is all set make a deep run in Almaty as well.  In his opening round bout on Wednesday (16 Oct 2013) he made a strong start not giving the Tanzanian boxer any time or space to settle into a rhythm. Kidunda, who participated at the 2012 London Olympics, was clearly out of sorts against the power hitting of the Indian boxer. Mandeep dominated the bout from start to finish and went on to make his place in the next round by a unanimous decision. The score was 30:27, 30:26 and 30:27. Mandeep is expected to have a tough contest in the next round against Olympian Serdar Hudayberdiyev of Turkmenistan, who incidentally lost to Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Manoj Kumar (64kg) in the first round at 2012 London Olympics, in the light welter weight division. Both Serdar and Mandeep are now boxing in the welter weight category and all indications are for a good contest.
