After a good performance at the AIBA Youth World Championship, the Indian squad would be returning home on the 9th Dec’12. Two time Youth National Champion, Narender Berwal (+91) did well to make it the Championship round but had to settle for a silver medal finish after being outpointed by Hughie Fury of England. The 18 year old Haryana lad’s commendable performance saw him claim his maiden World Championship medal playing in his very first international tournament.
2012 Tammer International Tournament winner, Lalitha Prasad (49kg) and Sandeep Sharma (75kg) a bronze medallist at the 2010 International Invitational tournament in Kazakhstan made it to the penultimate round of the championship. But the two 17 year olds had to be content with a bronze medal performance after losing out in the semi-finals. While Prasad was outdone by Bin LV of China, Sandeep went down to Magomed Madyiev of Russia.
